Perrigo Responds to Gluten-Free Trend
Thursday, 10 December 2009, 12:52 PM
The Perrigo Company, a global OTC and generic pharmaceutical company, will launch a labeling program to help consumers identify gluten-free pharmaceutical products starting in January 2010.
The labeling initiative
will make Perrigo the first OTC manufacturer to label its products as
gluten-free. To accompany this new labeling initiative, Perrigo will
institute a gluten-free assurance program that will assure that the products
labeled as gluten-free will contain less than 20 parts per million of gluten.
"Our retail customers can continue to rely on Perrigo to pinpoint and act
on consumer trends,” Perrigo chief executive Joseph C. Papa said in a statement.
"This includes the growing list of individuals who need to know whether or
not a product is gluten-free."
